Datenschutzerklärung

Informationen nach Art. 13 DSGVO · Die deutsche Fassung ist maßgeblich; an English translation follows below.

1. Verantwortlicher

Jonas Carl

12. Deine Rechte

Privacy Policy

Information per Art. 13 GDPR · This is an English translation provided as a courtesy; the German version above is the legally binding one.

1. Controller

Jonas Carl
Ilsenhof 16
12053 Berlin
Germany
Email: kontakt@internship-monitor.de

No data protection officer is appointed; none is required under § 38 BDSG.

2. The core principle: data minimization

Internship Monitor watches public career pages and emails you matching roles. That requires very little data about you — and we don't store more than that: no trackers, no analytics, no ad networks, and we never sell or share your data. The sections below are the complete list of what we process.

3. Account data

  • Data: email address, password (stored only as an irreversible scrypt hash with a random salt — never in plain text), signup and last-login timestamps, chosen language (DE/EN).
  • Purpose: providing your account and the alert service.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract).
  • Retention: until you delete the account (possible at any time, see section 12). Accounts whose email address is not confirmed within 7 days are deleted automatically.

4. Job-alert emails and double opt-in (consent)

Before we send you a single job email, you must confirm your email address (double opt-in): after signup you receive a confirmation email with a link (valid for 48 hours). Only after you click that link is email delivery activated.

  • Proof of consent (Art. 7(1) GDPR): when you click the confirmation link we record the confirmation timestamp, the IP address the click came from, and the version of the consent wording you agreed to (e.g. “consent_v1”).
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) for the emails, alongside Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (the alerts are the core contractual service).
  • Content: alert emails contain only job postings matching your criteria — no advertising.
  • Image in the email header: our emails carry a logo in the header that your email program loads from our server. Doing so necessarily transmits your IP address, the time and your program's identifier to our server, where they land in the general server log (section 8, deleted after 30 days). We do not evaluate this: it is a single image, identical for every recipient — no tracking pixel, no per-recipient identifier, no open or click measurement. If your program blocks the image (many do by default), nothing reaches us and the email stays fully readable — our name appears as text instead.
  • Withdrawal: any time — pause notifications on your account page or delete the account (section 12). Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before it.

5. Search criteria

We process your saved filters (role type, areas, companies, places, notifications on/off) to decide which postings reach you. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Deleted together with the account.

6. Feedback and suggestions

When you write to us through the feedback form or through the short question shown after you save your search criteria, your text is sent as an email to our contact mailbox. For the question on the criteria page we also include your internal account number and a summary of the search criteria you just saved, so that we can make sense of the request — not your email address. We store these two kinds of message in no database (this does not apply to the survey in section 6.1 — see there).

  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest: improving the service and handling your request). Providing this is voluntary; if you type nothing, nothing happens.
  • Retention: in our mailbox, deleted at the latest 12 months after receipt. On request we delete an individual message earlier — an email to kontakt@internship-monitor.de is enough (a message already in the mailbox is not covered automatically by deleting your account).
  • Please do not enter special categories of personal data (e.g. health data) into these fields.

6.1 One-off feedback survey by email

About a week after your first job email we send you exactly one short survey by email — a link to a questionnaire with eight short questions about coverage, filters, usability and your interest in faster alerts. Never again after that: we keep a pseudonymous note (your internal account number only) that this email went to your account, so it cannot repeat. Every question is optional, and you may simply ignore the email. The survey changes nothing about your job alerts — neither whether you get them nor which ones.

  • Purpose: improving the coverage, the filters and the usability of the service.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in improving a service you use). You may object to this processing at any time (section 12).
  • What is stored: your answers (including the two optional free-text fields), the language you chose and the timestamp — linked to your account, without an IP address.
  • Retention: until your account is deleted; deleting the account deletes the answers with it. A copy of your answers is additionally emailed to our mailbox and deleted there at the latest 12 months after receipt (as in section 6). The survey link is valid for 30 days.
  • If you want no emails at all: pause notifications on your account page or delete the account (section 12) — then this one email will not reach you either. It is never sent to unconfirmed addresses.
  • Please do not put other people's personal data into the survey's free-text fields either.

7. Delivery log

So that you never receive the same posting twice, we keep a pseudonymous log of which job posting (as a technical hash) was mailed to your account (as an internal number) and when — no email address, no content. The same applies to the one-off welcome email and the one-off feedback email (section 6.1).

  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest: avoiding duplicates, tracing delivery).
  • Retention: delivery-log entries are deleted automatically after 180 days; deleting your account removes all of your entries.
  • One exception, in your favour: the marker for the one-off feedback email is not deleted after 180 days but only together with your account. The reason: deleting it earlier would make you receive that email a second time — exactly what the "exactly one" promise exists to prevent. It consists of three pseudonymous values (account number, kind of email, timestamp).

8. Server and IP logs

When you visit the site, the server necessarily processes your IP address (hosting-platform access logs, short-lived in-memory rate-limiting counters). Purpose: operations, security, abuse prevention (e.g. blocking password-guessing). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our application logs contain no email addresses or other direct identifiers as a matter of policy.

9. Cookies and local storage — no tracking

  • Session cookie (ibmon_session): set only when you log in, keeps you logged in (HttpOnly, max. 30 days). Strictly necessary for the service — exempt from consent under § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG.
  • Language setting (ibm_lang in localStorage): stores your EN/DE choice when you use the language toggle — a setting you explicitly requested, likewise § 25(2) TDDDG.
  • Login hint (ibm_has_session in localStorage): remembers only that you are logged in, so the account page shows the right view immediately instead of flashing the login form. It contains no identifier and no data about you, and is removed when you log out.
  • Survey marker (ibm_survey_criteria_v1 in localStorage): remembers whether we have already asked you about missing filters (section 6), so the question does not appear again. No tracking, no identifier, § 25(2) TDDDG.

Nothing else is stored client-side. There is no tracking, no analytics cookie and no third-party content (fonts are self-hosted) — which is why this site needs no cookie banner. This section describes the website; for the logo our emails load, see section 4.

10. Launch waitlist

Paid plans cannot be booked yet. By joining the waitlist on the landing page you consent to us storing the email address you entered (plus chosen plan and language) and sending you exactly one notification when the Season Pass launches — nothing else.

  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent given by joining).
  • Retention: until that one launch email is sent, after which the list is deleted. You can leave the list earlier at any time by emailing kontakt@internship-monitor.de.

11. Recipients and processors

We pass your data to no one. To run the service we use the following processors (Art. 28 GDPR):

  • Hosting: Google Cloud (Google Ireland Ltd., Cloud Run, Region europe-west3) — runs the website and database, servers located in the EU.
  • Email delivery: Brevo (Sendinblue GmbH / Brevo SAS, Paris, France) — technical delivery of confirmation and alert emails, servers located in the EU.
  • Domain and contact mailbox: IONOS SE (Montabaur, Germany) — domain management and receiving replies and support requests.

Data-processing agreements are in place with all providers. Should a provider outside the EU/EEA ever be used, transfers will rely on an adequacy decision (e.g. the EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or standard contractual clauses.

12. Your rights

  • Access and data portability (Art. 15, 20 GDPR): on your account page, “Export my data” downloads a complete, machine-readable copy of everything stored about your account (JSON) — including account data, search criteria, the consent record and the delivery history of the last 180 days.
  • Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): on the delete account page you delete your account yourself, immediately — including search criteria and the delivery log.
  • Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): self-service email change is not available yet; write to kontakt@internship-monitor.de (or delete the account and sign up again).
  • Restriction (Art. 18) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR): by email to kontakt@internship-monitor.de.
  • Withdrawing consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR): at any time with effect for the future (sections 4 and 10).

13. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR) — for instance the state data protection commissioner (LfDI) of Berlin, where the controller is based, or any other supervisory authority of your choice.

14. Version and changes

Last updated: [DATUM VOR VERÖFFENTLICHUNG EINSETZEN]. We will update this policy as the service evolves; the version published here applies.
